Child, Adolescent, and Family Therapy
In my work with children and adolescents I take a collaborative approach that builds on individual and/or family strengths. At my core I think of myself as a family therapist in that I always consider the child in the context of their wider community of loved ones, their "family". I adhere strongly to the idea that safe and loving relationships with our most important people provide us the strength and confidence to explore the world (secure attachment), and are our best paths to living a more meaningful and connected life. With children and adolescents I use talk and play interventions, depending on the developmental needs of the client. For children as young as 1 year old and their caregivers who have experienced trauma, I offer a form of family therapy called Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). For children of all ages and their caregivers I offer Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). If you are seeking out therapy for your child, ongoing caregiver involvement is required in order for me to work with your child in any capacity of psychotherapy treatment and this is decided upon jointly and collaboratively with your child's needs in mind. |
Individual Adult and Couples Therapy
With my adult clients I also take an emotionally focused approach, exploring ideas of one's self and important relationships and how these relate to one's sense of self and identity. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a guidepost for exploring with clients how to live a more meaningful and full life according to one’s values while also learning behavioral techniques to change difficult thought patterns. With couples I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to explore and work towards shifting negative cycles of interaction that have led to disconnection in the relationship. |
