How often do I come in and how long will I need treatment for? Sessions are typically held 1-2x weekly for 50 minute sessions, or as your treatment needs dictate. The length of treatment is something that is collaboratively decided upon based on the particular issues you or your child is seeking support with.
If my child is in individual therapy with you, why do I have to be involved? Isn’t what you talk about with my child private? Even if I see your child in individual therapy, as a caregiver you are a very important part of your child’s treatment. I will only see your child for 1-2 hours per week and if we do not have an ongoing plan for being in touch, the skills and insights gained in therapy may not translate to other parts of your chili’s life outside of therapy. Ongoing caregiver involvement is also important so that you and your family can make important changes that will support your child’s development even when therapy has ended. While I will generally not share the specifics of what your child speaks about in therapy if we have agreed to individual treatment, I will set up the therapy with your child in a way that they understand I will be meeting regularly with you to support them and their treatment goals. Children generally don’t have an issue with this type of information being shared.
What if I want support around my parenting but I don't think my child needs to be in therapy? Many caregivers find relief from spending time thinking together about their values as parents and how to act and react from these rather than from fears or anxieties. I will generally meet with caregivers for at least 2-4 sessions before first meeting with the child, and for some families I may never meet the child. Whether in individual therapy, family-based therapy, or even parent consultation, I work closely with caregivers to understand their child’s behaviors and to attend to the emotional needs that may be masked by troubling behaviors.
Do you take insurance? If you have out-of-network coverage for mental health or counseling services or a PPO plan I can provide you with a receipt to submit to your insurance. I accept, cash, check, credit cards, HSA and FSA accounts. With your permission, I will keep your payment information on file for more convenient billing for you.
How much can I expect to pay for a course of therapy? The estimated cost of a course of therapy varies greatly depending on the age of the client, the type of therapy provided, severity, and diagnoses being treated. With the passage of the No Surprises Act in January 2022, out-of-network providers are required to provide you with an estimate of the costs of your care. Please find more information here
